YOUTH IS BRUTAL: COMING OF AGE FILMS
Double Feature! Director Jason Reitman In Person! Book Signing with Anthony Breznican!
YOUNG ADULT / THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

Introduction by Anthony Breznican, who will sign his book Brutal Youth in the lobby at 6:30PM.

Discussion between films with YOUNG ADULT director Jason Reitman.
YOUNG ADULT
2011, Paramount, 94 min, USA, Dir: Jason Reitman

JUNO director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody reteam for this biting comedy about Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron), who writes novels for young adults without fitting into either demographic. When she learns that old high school boyfriend Buddy (Patrick Wilson) and his wife (Elizabeth Reaser) just had a child, Mavis takes it as a cue to return to her Minnesota hometown and try to win the man back. Patton Oswalt is wonderful as the former classmate who tries to talk some sense into her.

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
2012, Lionsgate, 102 min, USA, Dir: Stephen Chbosky

Stephen Chbosky adapts and directs his best-selling novel about Charlie (Logan Lerman), a thoughtful but introverted freshman at a Pittsburgh high school. In the aftermath of a friend’s suicide, Charlie struggles with serious emotional issues, but finds sympathetic ears in school seniors Sam (Emma Watson) and her stepbrother Patrick (Ezra Miller). Paul Rudd, Dylan McDermott and Joan Cusack are among the adults in their lives. “An ecstatic expression of the beautiful solidarity of youth.” - Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly.
