Raymond Chandler, the most famous and arguably best writer of the noir fiction genre, set many scenes from his stories in Bay City, his sobriquet for Santa Monica. The inaugural NoirFest Santa Monica today honors the captivating novelist’s characteristic use of place in literature, film, photography and music.

Judith Freeman, Raymond Chandler expert, and Alan K. Rode, Film Noir expert, will introduce the double feature. There will be a discussion between films with actor Conrad Janis (THE BRASHER DOUBLOON), moderated by Alan K. Rode.

In this adaptation of the Raymond Chandler novel Farewell, My Lovely, quintessential L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe searches for an ex-con's girlfriend but, as always, winds up swimming in deceit and double crosses, all of it washing up at a lavish Malibu beach house. Featuring former hoofer Dick Powell as Marlowe, and Claire Trevor as the fabulous femme fatale.
