Silent Shorts in Rare Formats
Co-presented by the USC Hugh M. Hefner Moving Image Archive

This inaugural Forgotten Formats program presents an evening of comedy and drama from across the world, all presented on ultra-rare film stock of the silent era. Kicking off our program is a 28mm presentation of the once-lost Harold Lloyd 1918 short “That’s Him,” which follows a honeymooner’s frantic search to find a lost train ticket. Also on 28mm is an early 1908 French madcap comedy, “Mysterious Villa,” which will be followed by the hilarious, rarely seen 1923 comedy “Captain Sudd,” as well as the 1909 Pathé drama “The Gypsy,” projected from an original 106-year-old print. Closing the night are two 9.5mm films: “Walter’s Paying Policy,” a 1921 British comedy starring Walter Forde, and “Nonsense,” a 1920 Jimmie Adams silent comedy.

90 minutes. | Program compiled by Chris Lemaire and Dino Everett.
