When Irish actor-director Kenneth Branagh burst onto the world filmmaking scene at the age of 28 with his acclaimed production of HENRY V, comparisons with Orson Welles were inevitable and plentiful. While the similarities are many - both men share a background in theater, a precision in both performance and the visual intricacies of filmmaking, and a showman's enthusiasm - Branagh went on to distinguish himself from the master with his own eclectic and unpredictable body of work. The cinema's most accomplished director of Shakespeare since Olivier, Branagh is equally comfortable in genre movies like DEAD AGAIN, MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN, and the comic book extravaganza THOR. As an actor under the direction of other auteurs, he has turned in superb work for Woody Allen and Robert Altman, among others, and is known to children the world over as Professor Lockhart from the HARRY POTTER franchise.
Join us for an in-person tribute to the career of Kenneth Branagh, including MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, A MIDWINTER’S TALE and his epic adaptation of HAMLET.
