December 11 & 18, 2011, at the Egyptian and Aero Theatres
Emmanuel Lubezki began his career working in television in his native country of Mexico before becoming an internationally renowned cinematographer. After establishing himself in America with the indie film TWENTY BUCKS and Ben Stiller's REALITY BITES, Lubezki went on to create gorgeous images for a wide variety of important directors, including Mike Nichols (THE BIRDCAGE) and Tim Burton (SLEEPY HOLLOW). His most productive collaborations have been with directors Alfonso Cuaron (Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, CHILDREN OF MEN) and Terrence Malick (THE NEW WORLD, THE TREE OF LIFE), with whom Lubezki has crafted some of the most innovative and influential visuals of modern times.
Join us for a selection of Emmanuel Lubezki’s most celebrated films, including “An Evening with Emmanuel Lubezki,” featuring a clip reel of Lubezki’s work, a screening of THE TREE OF LIFE and Lubezki in person.
Series compiled by Grant Moninger and Gwen Deglise. Program notes by Jim Hemphill, with additions by Beth Hanna.
