All aboard for a high fashion holiday with Dave Temple of Clever Vintage Clothing, who will present a fascinating talk about how the ever-changing popular modes of travel in the first half of the 20th century influenced women's fashion. Images from the pages of vintage Vogue magazines and live models dressed for various types of travel (complete with period luggage) will take us on a journey through the Golden Age of Travel aboard steamships, trains, automobiles and finally, the jet airplane. Our itinerary will be highlighted by such stops as: made-for-travel mix and match fashions like "A Weekend on a Hanger," the advent of the narrow Pullman case specifically designed for rail travel, the first soft luggage that molded to the shape of the auto trunk and as ladies took the wheel on road trips across the highways that began to sprawl across the country under Eisenhower, their car coats featured tailored sleeves that wouldn't catch on the gearshift!
Followed at 3:30 PM by a screening of THE LONG, LONG TRAILER. Please note that since there is a live presentation, the start time of the film may fluctuate slightly. If you are only coming for the film, we suggest arriving no later than 3:15 PM. http://www.clevervintageclothing.com/ | http://www.myvintagevogue.com | http://www.adsla.org
