This year’s holiday series begins with a double feature of NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION and SCROOGED, starring “Saturday Night Live” alumni Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, respectively. Nostalgic comedy ELF features Will Ferrell as one of Santa’s helpers searching for his real father. Two of the 1980s’ biggest action stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, are teamed in a double bill set during the holidays: JINGLE ALL THE WAY and DIE HARD.
Our annual co-presentation with Outfest of AUNTIE MAME stars Rosalind Russell in the title role; the Comden & Green-penned comedy is the perfect cup of eggnog to warm a December night. Word’s gotten out on how much fun this one is with a live audience; to accommodate demand we added a second screening at the Egyptian and one at the Aero.
Underneath the mistletoe you’ll find hilarious misbehavior from the men dressed as St. Nick in BAD SANTA (Billy Bob Thornton) and TRADING PLACES (Eddie Murphy). Have a very grisly Christmas with three installments in the SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT holiday slasher franchise, as well as a Cinematic Void double feature of TO ALL A GOODNIGHT and ELVES.
If your tastes are more traditional, don’t miss Bing Crosby in WHITE CHRISTMAS, in which he costars with Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney (and sings the famous title song). You’ll have four chances to enjoy seasonal evergreen IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: The Frank Capra/Jimmy Stewart classic screens twice at the Egyptian and twice at the Aero the week before Christmas.
Series compiled by Grant Moninger and Gwen Deglise. Program notes by John Hagelston.
