October 6 - 31, 2012
This October turns the Egyptian and Aero Theatres into houses of horror with some of the genre’s most memorable movies scaring audiences in the run-up to Halloween. Several vintage vampires will visit our screens, including Bela Lugosi as DRACULA, Christopher Lee starring in THE HORROR OF DRACULA, and Max Schreck in F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent NOSFERATU. Our Mummython simultaneously celebrates Halloween and the 90th anniversary of our own Egyptian Theatre with back-to-back screenings of THE MUMMY’S HAND, THE MUMMY’S TOMB, THE MUMMY’S GHOST, and THE MUMMY’S CURSE. The producer/director team of Val Lewton & Jacques Tourneur created some of the creepiest films of the 1940s, and we’ve got a double feature of their original version of CAT PEOPLE and I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE. The new film THE SELLING offers a comedic take on the haunted house story, told from the perspective of real estate agents, with in-person guests. Retroformat returns to the Egyptian’s Spielberg Theatre with the 1915 adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's then-notorious play GHOSTS; this program of silents will feature live keyboard accompaniment. A beautiful new digital restoration of the 1950s classic CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON will be presented in eye-popping 3D, with star Julie Adams in person! Who you gonna call when your house has the haunts? We’ve got the GHOSTBUSTERS, presented in 70mm. And last but not least, get ready for our 7th Annual Dusk-To-Dawn Horrorthon at the Aero, where audiences will be paralyzed with fear (and some laughter!) by an all-night program featuring six of the most shocking and schlocky horror movies from the ’70s and ’80s.
