August 2 & 16 – 19, 2012, at the Egyptian and Aero Theatres
From his big break in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY in 1953, to his Oscar-winning turn as the title character in Paddy Chayefsky and Delbert Mann’s MARTY, to his work in essential Westerns THE WILD BUNCH and JOHNNY GUITAR, Ernest Borgnine (January 24, 1917 - July 8, 2012) created an indelible gallery of unconventional but distinctly American characters. Often cast as the villain or a military figure, Borgnine had remarkable versatility and was a comfortable presence in a wide array of genres and eras: comedies (THE OSCAR), musicals (THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE), film noir (BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK) and even ’80s action flicks (ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK).
Join us for a 5-night tribute to Ernest Borgnine, including THE DIRTY DOZEN, EMPEROR OF THE NORTH POLE, THE BADLANDERS, THE VIKINGS and THE CATERED AFFAIR. FROM HERE TO ETERNITY screens as part of the Aero's Digital Cinema Series.
Series compiled by Gwen Deglise, Grant Moninger and Beth Hanna. Program note additions by Beth Hanna.
