Art Deco Society Talks 2013
Illustrated Talk & Screening!
Gotta Dance: The Art of The Movie Poster / CAREFREE
Co-Presented with the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles

Poster designer and producer Mike Kaplan will give a 40-minute illustrated talk on the art of the movie poster in the art deco era, using examples from his collection of original movie posters from around the world, in conjunction with his exhibit running at Barnsdall Art Park Foundation. A screening of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers musical CAREFREE will follow.

Audience members are invited to join the Art Deco Society after the film screening, at Sadie on Las Palmas Avenue, for a no-host "Cocktails in Historic Places" toast to the new year.

1938, Warner Bros., 83 min, USA, Dir: Mark Sandrich

Featuring their longest screen kiss, this screwball musical pits Fred Astaire as Dr. Tony Flagg, a psychiatrist taking on patient Amanda Cooper (Ginger Rogers) - who is also the fiancée of his friend (Ralph Bellamy). Love and chaos ensue as Dr. Flagg tries to cure Amanda with hypnosis and ends up propelling her into a hilariously carefree state. Songs by Irving Berlin include “I Used to Be Color Blind” and the Oscar-nominated “Change Partners.” With Franklin Pangborn.
